The Cibolo Nature Center & Farm is located on what once was the Herff Ranch, established in 1852 by pioneer surgeon Dr. Ferdinand Herff. Much of the original 10,000-acre ranch has been developed, but the Friends of the Cibolo Wilderness group was able to acquire 62 acres of historic farmland across Cibolo Creek from the CNC’s nature preserve, including the original ranch homestead, which has been restored to National Register of Historic Places standards and is permanently protected through a voluntary conservation easement.
Newsom Vineyards is located in Plains, Texas,
about 70 miles southwest of Lubbock, TX. In mid-April, the vines begin to flourish in the dry red sandy soils. During harvest season, visitors can walk between the grapevines and enjoy an edible tour.
Starting with 2 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon in the spring of 1986, Newsom Vineyards now grows a total of 150 acres, 19 varieties, and supplies fruit to over 10 wineries in the state.
